Nice Frickin' Homecoming

How annoying. And probably humiliating as well.
Oh we will sleep soundly tonight knowing our valiant customs people are on the lookout for Japanese cucumber seeds!
Well yes, I know I sure feel better. I mean there can't be many people more dangerous than those cucumber seed people that they should be worrying about.
Good lord! What bullshit!!!! Stupidity like that is what can turn a thinking reasonable person into a terrorist.
Much direct experience has shown me the brightest candles in the chandelier are not U.S. government employees.
you got that right!
p.s. According to customs regulations, the United States has very strict restrictions on importing foods, seeds, plants, perishables, and agricultural goods into the country. The burden falls on your wife; the costly error could've been prevented easily had she familiarized herself with what is permissible and what is not.
That is absolutely ridiculous! I have not heard of something like this ever happening... I just assumed they would have you toss whatever it was they did not allow into the country... it is not an illegal substance or anything, I do not see what the problem is.

Seriously, it is a crime to fine someone for something stupid like that...
I brought seeds into the the United States one, interestingly enough, from no other place than Amsterdam, The Netherlands.... they were just vegetable seeds for my father but nothing happened to me...
@Ukifune - Some items are bound to get past airport security. A lot of it also has to do with the security officer. Some are on power trips and will nail a traveler for the slightest offense; others are more lenient.

Yeah... what you said is intuitive...

I always get things through, especially lighters... I always have multiple lighters and a book of matches in my purse, and I fly often... have not been asked to take them out yet.

@Ukifune - WTF!?! You simply must share where these airport slackers can be found! I've been through lots of airports and the worst was by far LAX, probably because I don't speak Spanish, am American by birth and speak excellent English.
@Ukifune - correction: the Colorado Springs airport was the worst; LAX was the most shameful, almost insulting.
Hmm I dunno, Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago... I have been through lots. Funny addition is that I am an American-born Arab, have an Arabic name, and am veiled in my passport photo. No accent though. I dunno...

I have had more trouble in Europe than the US to be honest.
frighteningly amazing.
